Volunteering for a clinical study is a personal choice. You have no obligation to take part, and it isn't right for everyone. After enrolling, you may leave at any time, for any reason.
Medical advances start with volunteers.
Clinical studies bring the latest research to volunteers, sometimes patients who need a breakthrough for their condition. Without volunteers, clinical studies simply would not be possible.
Why volunteer
Clinical studies are different from medical care.
When you visit your doctor, they diagnose and treat your current illness or condition. In a clinical study, researchers gather new knowledge that will help improve medical care for people in the future. Both people with a particular disease and healthy people can contribute to medical advances.
People volunteer for clinical studies for many reasons, including:
- A desire to improve medical care for future generations
- A connection to a disease or illness, through personal experience or friends and family
- A personal interest in science

An independent Ethics Committee (EC) oversees every BioRadius study involving people, ensuring research is conducted safely and ethically. Its members include doctors, scientists, nurses and people from the local community.

Informed consent
Before deciding to participate, you'll be asked to review an informed consent form with the key facts about the study, so you can decide whether it's right for you. You must sign it to participate, but it is not a contract: you can still leave the study at any time.
Risks and benefits
All medical research involves some level of risk, and risks and benefits vary from study to study. The study team is required to tell you about all known risks, benefits and alternative healthcare options.
